Now and where we want to be

Who were we?

Jack in the Box day care was set up in 2003 as non-profit making breakfast and afterschool clubs for the Tudhoe Moor nursery children. In 2006 the setting was made into a children’s centre. Extensions were built for One Point and Jack in the Box. This created the space to have a full time day care from 7.30-5.30 for children aged 0-4 years old. As the day care became more successful another extension was built which we know as the Jumper’s room.

Who are we?

We are a successful and sustainable day care setting in our own right. We have good relationships with our community. We often join in with special events and enjoy trips into our community. We have good relationships with schools in the area and other professionals. We especially have a good relationship with Tudhoe Moor nursery school who we work closely with every day to ensure all of our children’s needs are met regardless of their age. Our team’s relationships with parents and staff are particularly strong. We work hard to ensure transitions into nursery and though nursery until a family leaves us are suited to the individual child and their family. We follow a play based curriculum which is tailored to children’s individual needs and have a particular focus on Communication and language, Personal, Social and Emotional development, and Physical development. We use all 7 areas of learning including  literacy, maths and cognition and learning opportunities throughout our everyday routines and experiences offered. We also strive to give4 children as many opportunities as possible and often explore our local community and take public bus rides.

Who do we want to be?

Our aim is to develop our environment and teaching even further to support children’s learning with maths and writing. We want to continue to be successful and sustainable and further develop outcomes for our children. Our next adventure is to develop our garden to improve the learning environment. Go to our outside area to see what we have already done. We also want to develop our health and well-being opportunities. Embedding confidence and resilience skills are very important to us, therefore we seek any new ongoing projects that will support us with this.  Over the next year we will be focusing on defining our curriculum intent, improving our environments and getting involved in the community as much as possible.
